What is 'BD Gymnastics'?
It was our first printed catalogue to the same called exhibition "Gymnastics" years ago. The idea behind of it was to demonstrate
graphic design without any limits.
Do you make workshops or speaches?
Yes we do, but not so often. We are designers, not talkmasters… But we like to give speeches in other cultures like South America or Asia, because this enables us to travel a little bit and to get new inspiration for our work.
Do you also make art and exhibit your work?
Design is just as highly respected in Switzerland as fine art is. The main difference between the two disciplines is that graphic design has to be functional. Personally, we don’t much care for the distinction: We just make what we think is cool, the kind of design we like.
’Gymnastics’ was our first printed catalogue for the same called exhibition years ago. The next art catalogue is ’BD Origin’ It came along with an exhibition we’ve had at the gallery of Lucy Mackintosh in Lausanne in Winter 2004. It showed a cross-selection of our work and of stuff we like: graphics, paintings, plastics and fun stuff. Plus, we built our office – computers, tables, chairs and details – out of cardboards. Check www.lucymackintosh.ch.
What exhibitions did you do so far?
You can see a visual colletion of all the exhibitions we participated so far under www.burodestruct.net/bureaudestruct/info/exhibitions.html
What is the project "Isle Of Jura" all about?
It was one of the most extraordinary projects we did so far. Originally meant to be a photoreportage
for the soDa-magazine about the Isle Of Jura in Scottland we claimed to visit this island and make
a feature about it. Actually we didn't go to scottland - which seemed to be to far away for us - but to "jura"
a part in the north of Switzerland, which looks more or less similar to the scottish landscape.
We had a wonderful time in the swiss jura and took a lot of "scottish" images. Along with that, while drinking a lot of scottish whiskey we wrote a diary
and then handed all this together to the soDa publishers. For three months nobody realised it at all. Then we disclosed our secret with a büro discotec party!
Pictures from this trip can be found in the BD II Book.
